The Gloucester Clean Community Committee’s community-wide spring cleanup event will be named “The Blair Farinholt Memorial Clean Gloucester Day”. The annual cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, March 10, 2018.
Committee members dedicated the March 2018 event in memory of Gloucester native and long-time cleanup volunteer Blair Farinholt. Farinholt died in September 2017.
“This event, held before the Daffodil Festival, encourages many Gloucester residents to get out and clean up our county. We wanted to recognize the long-standing commitment of Blair Farinholt to county cleanup efforts. For more than twenty-five years Farinholt organized litter cleanups in Ware Neck and attracted a loyal group of volunteers,” says Leslie Bowie, Clean Community coordinator.
Gloucester Clean Community plans and executes cleanups each spring and fall. In the past, the spring event attracts a larger number of volunteers; Clean Gloucester Day held in March 2017 boasted over 700 volunteers collecting 20 tons of trash.
